BROCKTON, Mass. (WLNE) — District Attorney Kevin Hayden said that a personal care assistant from Brockton was charged with defrauding a 95-year-old woman of about $150,000.
41-year-old Dominique Emmanuel was charged with one count of medical assistance fraud by provider and larceny over $1,200 by single scheme.
Emmanuel has been accused of stealing from the elderly woman’s bank account, collecting rent money intended for the victim, and taking out a reverse mortgage on the victim’s home.
Hayden said that in February 2023 Boston police received a report from a woman stating her 95-year-old mother’s personal care assistant had been stealing from her.
Police then reviewed the victim’s will and found that Emmanuel was listed as an alternate executor of the will.
The victim’s daughter then discovered her mother’s Mattapan home was in foreclosure due to a reverse mortgage the family did not know about, as well as the money withdrawn from the bank for Emmanuel’s rent as well as for construction work that was never done.
Hayden added that Emmanuel’s employment records showed that she had been paid for hours of work she did not perform, including days she was out of state and the victim was at an inpatient care facility.
Emmanuel is scheduled to be arraigned on Feb. 22 in Dorchester Boston Municipal Court.
